Influence of Thrips (pseudodendrothrips Mori) Infestation on the Biochemical Constituents and Photosynthetic Pigments of Mulberry (morus Spp.) Leaves

چکیده
The occurrence of fringed wings insect, Pseudodendrothrips mori is a major pest of mulberry, which causes a considerable leaf yield loss and inturn damages its quality. Hence, an attempt was made to know the changes in biochemical constituents (Free amino acids, total soluble proteins, total reducing sugars, total soluble sugars, starch and total phenols) and photosynthetic pigments (total chlorophyll, chlorophyll – a, chlorophyll – b, chlorophyll – a/b ratio and carotenoids) in thrips infested mulberry foliage of six popular varieties (M5, MR2, Mysore local, S36, S54 and V1). It was found that there was a significant variation in biochemical constituents and photosynthetic pigments in the thrips infested mulberry leaves compare to healthy. These post-infestational changes in these components leads to imbalance in nutritional status of mulberry leaves which adversely influence the growth and development of silkworm as well as quality of silk produced.

In mulberry orchards in northern part of Iran, thrips is a dominant pest and causing a lot of damage to the mulberry. The effect of pest on bio-chemical parameters of mulberry leaf of two varieties viz. Kenmochi and Ichenoise and also the effect of feeding of infested leaves on rearing performances have been studied. For the study, six plots of 200 m2 area of both the varieties were selected an...

The genetic variation and diversity among fifty-eight polyvoltine silkworm genotypes was estimated by using ten economic traits. The results revealed that the single shell weight showed higher genetic variation such as PCV% (17.20%), GCV% (12.93%), and heritability (56.5%) followed by single cocoon weight, shell ratio and matured larval weight. The D2 (Mahalonobis? distance) statistics reveal...

Mulberry (Morus spp.) is the only food plant for the silkworm, Bombyx mori Linn., which is an economically important insect for sericulture industry. Mulberry is attacked by a number of insect pests, parasites, predators and pathogens around the year which not only affect the leaf quality but also responsible for poor yield. Mulberry is reported to be attacked by more than 200 species of insect...
